Australian Blackwood, koa's closest cousin, is known for its varing color from log to log, even board to board. This particular flitch is a prime exaple, each board shines in different combinations of gold to crimson! The figure is a combination of pomelle, compression flame, curly and crotch figure. Along with impressive 11 1/2 foot length and a 36 inch average width this flitch would make spectacular one piece and two piece table tops. This is by far the most consistently wide and long blackwood flitch that we have ever cut. If you are looking for something unusual or perhaps a cheaper koa substitute then this might be the log for you! |
