Description:

This is maybe the nicest Wych Elm log that we have ever cut... If not the prettiest definitely the biggest. This beautiful Scottich Wych Elm is over 300 years old and at the widest point measured about 7 feet wide. Overall this log produced 50 inch average slabs at about 3 inches thick. The log is ideal for table tops but could be used for veneering or resawing for furniture. If the size of this flitch is not impressive enough it also has unbelievable burl figure throughout every board, amazing color variation, specatacular unpredicatable grain patterns and in the center slabs, crotch figure. The log was cut Fall of 2008 and will not be ready until 2010. We are taking deposits now and we do not expect the whole log to be available when dry. Note there are some smaller pieces that are available that are not listed below and some of this log was sent away for veneering. Please call for more information concerning deposits, veneer or to inquire about the smaller pieces of this log.

Note: All pictures of boards that appear wet, have been wiped with denature alcohol to help show natural color. We use denature alcohol because it evaporates and does not effect the moisture content of the wood.

Also note: photos shown in gallery below were taken right after the boards were cut. English Wych Elm appears bright orange in color when first cut, over time these boards will fade to beautiful shades of gold!

maybe the nicest piece in the whole flitch, board is coverd in burl from one to the other, very nice piece, note there is a significant check half way up that goes from edge to edge, probably can be worked with but does need to be noted
