Description: |
Maobi is a dense species that comes from western Africa. We normally do not carry this species but on this particular log we couldn't resist. The log showed every characteristic of having the best figure, plus it unusually big for the species. The log weighed over 20,000 pounds and measured 13 feet long and over 4 feet wide. The boards in this flitch cut with beautiful pomelle / quilted figure. With beautiful darker red color variation this flitch is very unique compared to the rest of our inventory. The density of these boards could best be compared to Rosewood. Sharp blades are required when working with this material but these boards should be well worth the extra work. They should make beautiful table tops. Note only half of this log has been cut into boards. The other half is for sale and could be custom cut to specifications. We will keep you posted if we cut the next half. |

Note: All pictures of boards that appear wet, have been wiped with denature alcohol to help show natural color. We use denature alcohol because it evaporates and does not effect the moisture content of the wood. |
