Butternut is one of North American’s most beautiful timbers. It is a golden brown member of the walnut family with a cathedral grain pattern looking like wavers breaking on a beach. At one time considered “poor man’s walnut” butternut is now blighting and only found in 10% of it’s former range.
*Butternut is domestic timber that is member of the Walnut family
*Once commonly found across the US, but is dying due to disease
*Material is becoming tough to find, but can still be used for most projects
*Widely used in all sorts of projects but it is worth noting it is a very good carving wood because the grain can be carved from either direction
*The color is much lighter then any other member of the walnut family
*Golden Brown Color with fine wavy texture
