Macassar ebony is an extremely hard wood, brown with black stripes that is one of finest hardwoods in the world. It can be used wherever a dark refined look is desired. I have seen it on dash boards of classic cars and in the staterooms of yachts. Macassar is one of the favorite species of the legendary furniture maker extraordinaire Sam Maloof.
