One way that we offer lumber here at Hearne Hardwoods is in flitch form. A flitch is a log that was cut and then catalogued and stored together. This offers the customer the opportunity to buy matching material from the same tree. In most cases, we cut these logs from side to side leaving the live free formed edge and creating sequential matching boards. Some logs are cut on an angle to maximize quality and figure. These boards usually have sawn edges, occurring when our Sawyer turns the log while cutting.
The inventory listed below includes dry flitches only. They have been air-dried 2 to 4 years depending on the species, and then kiln dried for 2 to 4 weeks. We generally kiln dry material to 6 to 8% moisture content. A few select species have been air-dried only, to prevent checking or due to the nature of the wood. If the material has only been air-dried we will mention that in the flitch's description.
Please Note: If you are planning a visit to Hearne Hardwoods to view this material in person, we are more than happy to oblige! We do ask that you make a list of the boards that you are interested in seeing as well as call ahead & schedule an appointment. Some of these slabs are stored in locations that require hours or days of prep time to retrieve. If you would like additional information or to see if other material may be available please call (888) 814-0007 or e-mail: info@hearnehardwoods.com.Thank you!
