The below hardwood flitches due to width, shape and other characteristics are ideal for table tops. Most of the flitches below are good for making 1 board table tops and for making book-matched table tops out of 2 boards. We offer mostly natural edged material which can be used this way or trimmed to make more traditional style table tops. Our flitches can be found with clear boards that are good for making traditional hardwood tables. We also offer character flitches that show many defects that offer interesting possibilities for free form / natural edge table tops and other designs.
Most of this material has been custom sawed on our 67" inch vertical band-saw and has been processed very slowly. Almost all slabs cut 40 inches and larger has been sawn into 8/4 lumber (2" inch lumber) and thicker. This allows for wide boards to be used at their full width even if the board develops a twist or a cup during the drying process. These wide exotic hardwood slabs are usually air dried 1 1/2 to 3 years and some wide burls table top slabs can take 3 to 5 years. Once air dried at 15 to 18% moisture content we run these flitches thru our dehumidfication-kiln for 2 to 3 weeks to dry the material between 6 to 10%.
Once the flitches reach this point we store them into one of our warehouses and when time permits we add them here to our website. This does not cover our full inventory for table tops. We have miscellaneous boards on other parts of this website and boards in stock that are not listed. For inquires and questions about the below and our inventory call us at (888) 814 - 0007 or e-mail us at info@hearnehardwoods.com.
