As Hearne Hardwoods Inc. celebrates our 10th anniversary as an independent lumber company, we reflect on our success in the specialty lumber business. The first key to our success is our commitment to providing the most extraordinary hardwoods in the world. The second is the dedication of our staff to providing excellent customer service. We service woodworkers from all over the country, and internationally, by providing the most beautiful woods coupled with a high respect for the ongoing process of sustainable forestry practices. Our growth is due to a wonderful core group of customers who spread the word about the Hearne Hardwoods shopping experience and our new friends who find out about us while surfing the web. Thank you everyone for your support and we look forward to working with you for years to come.

Recent News:

To keep our collection of wood always interesting, fresh, and well stocked, the Hearnes have been out on several buying trips.

~Rick Hearne made a trip to Europe in late May.  His first stop was Austria to purchase Larch.  From Austria he spent some time in Italy gathering Chestnut logs.  During the last leg of his trip, Rick found some outstanding Figured Sycamore, Pear wood, and French Walnut in Germany.

~After Rick recovered from his jet lag he was back on the road.  This time he was visiting Northern Canada to inspect their Birdseye Maple.

~In May, Brian Hearne flew to the Big Island in Hawaii to purchase Koa logs.  During his trip he acquired logs that upon arrival in Oxford will be cut into flitches and veneer.

All these logs will be added to our Flitch Inventory as soon as they are cut.  We will keep you posted with pictures and updates in future newsletters.

Newsletter Special of the Month: 4/4 Common Butternut

For the month of July 4/4 Common Butternut will be specially priced for Newsletter subscribers only!  Regularly $2.75 a board foot… if you mention this offer and order 100 board feet or more, your price is $1.50 a board foot.

Butternut, Juglans cinera, a member of the Walnut family, has a beautiful golden brown color.  Widths range 3-8 inches; lengths 4-10 feet.  Please call or email for more information or to place an order; (888)-814-0007 or (610)-932-7400, email [email protected]

Featured Wood: Tasmanian Blackwood, Acacia melanoxylon,  Family: Leguminosae

This month’s featured wood is Tasmanian Blackwood; also know as Australian Blackwood, or Black Wattle.  It is a fantastic substitute for Koa due to the similar color and grain patterns.  Tasmanian Blackwood, along with Koa, is a member of the Leguminosae family.

This beautiful species varies in color from golden brown, dark red, rich deep brown to even a pink hue.  We have Tasmanian Blackwood with grain that is straight or that ranges from light to heavy figure.

It is absolutely gorgeous and would work great for furniture design, instrument making, decorative veneers, gunstocks, or your specialty project.  Due to the limited supply of Koa driving up its price, Tasmanian Blackwood is a more affordable alternative.

Please check out our photo gallery to see more Tasmanian Blackwood pictures.  Call (888)-814-0007 or (610)-932-7400 or email us at [email protected] for more information regarding price and availability.

Hearne Hardwoods is excited to announce that we have broke ground on our new office building.  Due to the recent growth of our company, space has quickly become limited and a need for an office building has become obvious.  A 250 year old barn located on the property will be renovated into a one of a kind showroom. The new building will also hold office space for our administrative staff and a conference room for presentations and meetings.  We will keep you updated on our progress.  All will be welcome to attend our “Open House”.
