I have been reflecting recently on my fortune in being in the specialty lumber business. With the exception of one or two bad eggs this is a gentleman's business and we maintain good relationships with our competitors. As a group we share an appreciation for the beautiful resource of wood that we are privileged to be able to work with on a daily basis and are not driven by the cut throat race for the most dollars. It is not unusual when one of us gets in an exceptional parcel to share images with one another knowing there will be delighted oohs and awes as the images are opened. Wouldn't it be wonderful if this political campaign could be run the same way? We are fortunate to have two decent candidates running in this election, they do have major differences in their platforms. Let us encourage them to run on their ideas instead of running negative campaigns that only polarize the electorate. I would like to see them respect their callings the way my colleagues respect ours.

Internet Store: Inceana

A lovely wood when highly figured or plain sawn, Inceana shares similar color patterns to Rosewood. It is a true member of the Acacia family, so it is no wonder that it has the same chatoyant properties as Koa.

Perfect to use in instrument making, knife handles, fishing rods, etc. Inceana trees are slowing growing so material is not often found wider than 10 inches.

Featured Wood: French Walnut

French Walnut, Juglans regia, is arguably one of the most beautiful woods in the world. The heartwood color ranges from chocolate to gold to orange. Slabs can be highly figured possessing beautiful curl, crotch or burl. On occasion, it can also contain the much-desired black spider web streaks or vein noir figure.

Some of this material does actually come from France, however "French Walnut", is an industry buzzword for most European Walnut; It can also be sold as Italian Walnut, Persian Walnut, German Walnut etc. Uses for this stunning species are endless and commonly you will see it used in the finest antiques.

Normal French Walnut lumber runs 4- 16 inches wide, however it can be found up to 60 inches. Lengths commonly run 6-12 feet. View available slabs for sale in our Flitch & Log Run Inventory.
